PANAME. BUT NOT PARIS

PANAME. BUT NOT PARIS

When a friend told me that Paris was also called Paname, just like the cafe that we were about to enter, I was surprised and had never heard of that nick name before. It is indeed related to the Republic of Panama. Either in terms of the painful memory to a financial scandal in the late 19th century connected with the Panama's Canal's construction that touched some of very influential French politicians and entrepreneurs, or - much nicer - related to the famous Panama hat that the Canal's workers used to wear which became fashionable during the 20th century's early years.

No matter where the name comes from, in Luxembourg near the main station, in the Gare district, it stands for a warm hospitality, homemade sandwiches with fresh veggies and poached eggs, good coffee and light sunday gin drinks during the day, and classic cocktails in lovely glasses at night. Graphically designed walls with alternating wooden and golden metal parts, big round light bulbs hanging down on the bar table and some green fresh plants create a chic yet cozy mood. The staff is friendly and welcoming, so a brunch with your friends or an evening with a date will be double delightful. And the best thing and very special in Luxemburg: Panama is open every day, even on Sundays! From 8 a.m. until 1 a.m.. I know for anyone living in a medium or big city this is normal, but in the Grand Duchy it isn't. Visit: www.paname.lu
