Ca(fé)sino Luxembourg. A PLACE WITH ARTS AND TARTS.
While entering this historic property that has been built end of the 19th century by the two Luxembourgish architects Pierre Kemp and Pierre Funck, you just know that this place must have been relevant in many ways. Not only it actually did host a casino, this building was a cultural center and for a long period of time became the heart of the social life in the Grand Duchy. Concerts, balls, theater performances, exhibitions, conventions of (social) clubs ... even Winston Churchill visited the Casino in 1946, and speaking about relevant concerts: Franz Liszt gave his last official concert in its premises in 1886. After being used as "Cercle Culturel des Communautés Européennes, it was renovated and reopened as "Forum d'art contemporain" in 1996, so a center for modern art supporting young international artists. The entrance is free all year long, you can join tours and events and visit the library with its 5.000 books, papers and magazines about contemporary arts from the 1960ies until today.
But there is another, very good reason to come here more often: the restaurant and café "Ca(fé)sino". Run by Johan Herelixka (H&B Catering) this modern brasserie with one long table in the center and several intimate tables for two serves salty and sweet snacks, a small range of main dishes and well selected wines and spirits. A highlight is for sure the weekend brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. During the week Johan and his team offer lunch and you can always just come by for a coffee and cake in the afternoon, even on brunch days. Thursday is the long day (open until 11 p.m. instead of 7 p.m.) and on Tuesdays it's closed. Special events like Anne's Kitchen Pop Up Restaurant in 2017 are the cherry on the cake and there's more to come from 2018 on...
