SCHUEBERFOUER. More than just a fun fair.

Its beginnings date back to the 14th century. John the First, King of Bohemia and Count of Luxembourg, once founded the “Schueberfouer” (schueber = barn, fouer = market) in 1340. Initially mainly agricultural products were sold, later shows and games were added, before it then transformed to a proper fun fair in the early 20th century. Nowadays it’s one of the most important dates on the city’s event agenda to gently kiss summer goodbye with a ride on the big wheel, romantic moments on nostalgic carousels, nerve-racking rides on rollercoasters, the most colourful journey on sailors’ and mermaids’ traces (my favourite carousel seen on some of the images), the traditional “gebaake Fësch” (baked fish), roasted almonds, waffles and a little Tarot session with Michele or Anika Theunisz. Going on for 3 entire weeks, this year’s fair is taking place from 23 August until 11 September 2019.
